MasterCard's World Cup deal upheld.

NEW YORK - The Second Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday issued a one-page order adopting a lower court's ruling that upholds MasterCard International's World Cup sponsorship rights.

Sprint Communications Corp. appealed U.S. District Court Judge John S. Martin Jr.'s March ruling, which prohibited the telecommunications company from using the World Cup logo on its telephone calling cards.

The New York-based card association is an official World Cup sponsor. Sprint holds a marketing agreement with World Cup.

After hearing arguments from Sprint and MasterCard earlier in the week, the appeals court found Judge Martin correct in all aspects of his ruling, thereby denying Sprint's appeal.
