Mellon names a retail banking chief.

PHILADELPHIA -- Mellon Bank Corp. announced the appointment of Paul S. Beideman as president of Mellon PSFS, its retail banking unit in Philadelphia.

Mr. Beideman joined Mellon in Pittsburgh in 1989 as manager of marketing, product development, sales, and service support. He was also in charge of merchant card services for Mellon's banks in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland. He was senior vice president and head of retail banking at Mellon PSFS since 1990.

Prior to joining Mellon, he spent 17 years with the former PSFS -- Philadelphia Saving Fund Society. Among the functions he managed were the branch system and marketing.

He reports to Thomas F. Donovan, chairman and chief executive of Mellon PSFS, which has more than 100 offices in the Philadelphia area.
