Mercantile Bank Names Executive

Mercantile Bank in St. Petersburg, Fla., has promoted chief operating officer Robert A. Blakley to president.

He will report to Gordon W. Campbell, chairman and CEO of the $407 million-asset bank and its parent company, Gulf West Banks Inc.

Mr. Blakley was Mercantile's senior executive vice president responsible for lending and retail banking.

He came to the bank in 1991 from Southeast Banking Corp. of Miami, which First Union Corp. bought the next year. Mr. Blakley worked in Pinellas County, Fla., for Southeast as a commercial lending vice president, as he did earlier for Pioneer Savings Bank in Clearwater, Fla.

Mercantile Bank has 12 offices in three Florida counties-Pinellas, Hillsborough, and Pasco.
