Merchants National sees sanction lifted.

CLEVELAND -- The Comptroller's office has lifted a memorandum of understanding against Merchants National Corp., said its merger partner, National City Corp.

The office reportedly was satisfied that Merchant's lead bank in Indianapolis had improved credit quality and met other objectives in the July 1990 memorandum which is a relatively mild regulatory sanction.

Cleveland-based National City merged with the Indiana holding company on May 2.
