Metropolitan drops National City deal.

MINNEAPOLIS - Minneapolis-based National City Bancorp and Metropolitan Financial Corp. said Thursday that they have terminated plans to merge.

Metropolitan, also in Minneapolis, has $5.1 billion in assets. It was to have acquired National City, which has $540 million in assets, for about $108 million, or 1.28 times book value. No reason was given for the termination.
