Two Mexican airlines have joined American Express Travel Related Services Co.'s Membership Miles frequent-flier program.
Beginning July 1,. American Express' U.S. cardmembers enrolled in the program can transfer miles into Aeromexico's Aeromiles and Mexicana's Frecuenta programs for travel in Mexico and North America, Europe, and South America.
Aeromexico and Mexicana join Delta, USAir, Continental, and Southwest Airlines as partners in the Membership Miles program, launched in 1991.
Redemption levels for free travel between the United States and Mexico on both airlines start at 30,000 miles, or 48,000 kilometers in Mexicana's Frecuenta program.
American Express cardmembers earn one program mile for every dollar charged. on the airlines. Once $5,000 has been reached, cardmembers can convert their miles for trips on the six partners, vacation awards, and other items.
