Mayor Coleman Young of Detroit revealed last week which candidate he would like to succeed him.

Young endorsed Sharon McPhail, a division chief in the Wayne County prosecutor's office, for major. McPhail came in second in the city's crowded Sept 14 nonpartisan primary election for mayor. She will face top vote-getter Dennis Archer, a former associate justice on the Michigan Supreme Court, in the Nov. 2 general election.
