KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Commerce Bancshares signed a definitive agreement to acquire Walnut Valley Bank and Trust of El Dorado, Kan.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, although it will involve a stock swap.
Walnut Valley has about $100 million of assets, Commerce Bancshares said. Commerce has total assets of $7.7 billion. After the expected closing of the Walnut Creek acquisition in the first quarter, Commerce said, it will have about $510 million of assets in Kansas.
The top five banks and thrifts have combined total assets of nearly $13 trillion.
