Money Fund Assets Dipped 0.2% in Week

Assets in U.S. money market mutual funds fell 0.2% in the week ending Jan. 24, to $784.8 billion, according to the Investment Company Institute.

Assets in retail funds decreased by $1.83 billion, to $544.3 billion. Taxable retail funds fell by $532 million, while tax-free retail portfolios lost $1.3 billion.

But assets in institutional money funds rose by $942.3 million during the week, to $240.5 billion.

Money market funds have generally gained fresh assets week after week over the past year, partly because of investor interest in mutual funds.
