Nat City Hires Private Client Exec for Cleveland

National City Corp. brought in a new market manager for its Cleveland private client group to free up the senior executive in charge of the business line from that responsibility.

The Cleveland-based banking company announced last week that it hired Richard C. Weber as private client group executive for the Cleveland market.

Executive vice president Jeffrey M. Biggar, who as chairman of the private client group business board oversees the business at banks operated by the holding company in four states, also ran the Cleveland private bank operations.

National City manages $17.7 billion of assets for private clients.

"He is going on to a broader role and stepping back from day-to-day operations in Cleveland," a spokeswoman said.

Mr. Weber joins National City from Cannon Financial Institute, a training firm for providers of high-end financial services in Athens; he was senior vice president and managed the curriculum for its private banking school.

Previously, Mr. Weber was a senior vice president and manager of private banking at the former Meridian Bank, now part of CoreStates Financial Corp.
