New MBA Post: Liaison to Members' Execs

The Mortgage Bankers Association of America has created a new job: ministering to senior executives at mortgage banks, particularly large ones.

The trade group has appointed Brian Chappelle to the post, senior staff vice president for corporate relations and membership. Mr. Chappelle said his job would be to "enhance the value of membership for senior executives of member firms."

"We want to reach out to them to solicit their ideas, their input, what issues are important to them - to make sure we are responsive to them," he said. To that end, Mr. Chappelle said he planned to speak to five or 10 chief executives every day, organize conferences, and travel widely.

In the past year, the association has faced competition from new mortgage trade groups representing the largest mortgage banks as well as subprime lenders. But Mr. Chappelle said his new assignment was unrelated to those developments.

Mr. Chappelle is a 10-year veteran of the organization. Until last month, he was staff vice president of residential finance and loan administration.
