Northern Trust Appoints Pero Vice Chairman; Elevates 2 More

Northern Trust Corp. in Chicago has named its chief financial officer, Perry R. Pero, vice chairman and promoted two other executives.

Mr. Pero, 60, was senior executive vice president; he will remain chief financial officer of the corporation and of its Northern Trust Co. subsidiary, posts he has held since 1988. In his new post he will also remain chairman of the corporate asset and liability committee and retain responsibility for risk management.

James J. Mitchell, 54, was promoted to president of the bank's worldwide operations and technology unit. He has led this unit as executive vice president since 1994.

Harry W. Short, 53, was promoted to executive vice president. He remains controller of the bank and holding company, posts he has held as senior vice president since 1994.
