Northern Trust's vice chairman retiring.

CHICAGO -- John S. Sutfin, vice chairman and a director of Northern Trust Corp. said he will retire effective Nov. 30.

Mr. Sulfin joined Northern Trust in 1961 and held various positions with the bank, including executive vice president and chief financial officer.

The bank also said that effective Nov. 1 it will combine its corporate financial services, commercial banking, and treasury management services divisions into a single unit.

Northern Trust will combine its trust and banking operations on the same day, and merge its systems activities into a new worldwide operations unit, to be headed by James J. Mitchell, executive vice president.
