Old Kent Hires Former Ahmanson Exec to be CFO

Old Kent Financial Corp. has hired a former chief financial officer of H.F. Ahmanson & Co. to be its new CFO.

William L. Sanders, 51, was most recently chief financial officer at Bank Plus Corp., a $3.5 billion-asset Los Angeles banking company. He started Aug. 18 at Old Kent.

A certified public accountant, Mr. Sanders is responsible for Old Kent's finances, as well as its mergers and acquisitions.

He also is on Old Kent's senior management committee, which makes key decisions about strategy for the $13.4 billion-asset company.

Mr. Sanders had been executive vice president and chief financial officer at Bank Plus since 1995. He filled the same roles at Ahmanson from 1992 to 1994.

In addition, Mr. Sanders has been CFO of both an insurance company and a real estate conglomerate.

Previously, he spent 17 years in public accounting in the commercial bank specialty area of KPMG Peat Marwick in St. Louis and was director of the financial industries group at Deloitte & Touche in Los Angeles.
