One Hired, Five Promoted at Sallie Mae

SLM Corp., the Reston, Va., student lender known as Sallie Mae, announced five promotions and a hiring Friday.

Cecelia Dwyer was promoted to vice president of school marketing. She joined Sallie in 2001 and was the president of its TrueCareers before joining the corporate marketing department in 2006.

Michael Maier joined Sallie as a vice president for its consumer lending businesses. Mr. Maier spent 11 years at MBNA Corp. (now part of Bank of America Corp.) and "has an extensive background in operations management, marketing, product development, and risk management," Sallie said. More recently he was a managing director at Elm Tree Financial.

Doug St. Peters was promoted to vice president of portfolio management. He joined Sallie in 2002 and manages $6.5 billion of defaulted loans.

Brandon McBride and Mike Walter were promoted to vice president for private credit collections. Mr. McBride joined Sallie in 2003. Mr. Walter joined in 2005, when it acquired Arrow Financial Services LLC. He oversees the lender's Muncie, Ind., Niles, Ill., and Summerlin, Nev., call centers.

Eric Watson was promoted to vice president and associate general counsel.
