Paul Jancu to join Tucker Anthony after Marine's muni closure.

Tucker Anthony Inc. announced yesterday that it has hired Paul Jancu, the outgoing co-chief executive officer of Marine Midland Capital Markets Corp. and head of public finance.

Mr. Jancu joined Marine Midland in November 1987 and saw the bank close its municipal securities department on Monday. At Tucker Anthony, he will focus on strategic planning and business development in the firm's public finance department. He will join the firm's New York office in October.

"We are extremely pleased to be able to secure Paul's services," said John Goldsmith, chairman of Tucker Anthony, which is based in Boston. "Few people in the public finance business ever attain his level of skill and command such enormous respect."

Before joining Marine Midland, Mr. Jancu headed L.F. Rothschild & Co.'s public finance department before it closed down in late 1987. There are number of his former colleagues from Rothschild now employed at Tucker Anthony.

David Kirschenbaum, senior vice president of Tucker Anthony's New York public finance office, said "I am thrilled" about Mr. Jancu coming aboard. In addition to working with Mr. Jancu at L.F. Rothschild, Mr. Kirschenbaum also worked with him at Marine Midland until last summer, when he left to join Tucker Anthony.
