Pennsylvania bank discloses merger talks.

PERKASIE, Pa. -- Independence Bancorp said it is holding merger discussions with an unspecified company. Independence said in a press release it would not comment further.

The company's shares have skyrocketed this week amid takeover speculation. The shares were trading at $32.75 at midday Thursday, up 21% since last Friday. Mellon Bank Corp., PNC Bank Corp., and First Fidelity Bancorp are viewed as possible suitors.

Independence has $2.6 billion of assets and owns four community banks in the eastern part of the Pennsylvania.
