PNC Appoints Head of Direct Banking

PNC Bank Corp. has named Judith E. Campbell senior vice president and manager of its direct bank unit.

The unit is designed to serve banking customers through channels other than branches. It is part of PNC's effort to attract customers from beyond the area in which it operates offices.

In her new job, Ms. Campbell is responsible for integrating telephones, automated teller machines, PCs, and other nonbranch retail channels into a nationwide direct banking business.

Ms. Campbell had been senior vice president and head of operations and technology at Midlantic Corp., which PNC acquired at the end of last year.

Before joining Midlantic, Campbell held a variety of positions in retail banking, human resources, operations, and planning at Chemical Banking Corp.
