Poll: Many People Struggle with Loans

One out of five consumers say that they cannot pay their monthly credit card or loan balances at least some of the time, according to a survey Standard & Poor's Corp. released Wednesday.

Fourteen percent of the respondents said they sometimes could not pay off their balances, and 6% said they were always unable to do so, S&P said. Another 8% said they could make only the minimum payment, and another 8% said they always or sometimes pay less than the minimum.

A tenth of the respondents said they are taking out more cash advances than they have in the past.

The rating agency and Ketchum Global Research Network conducted the online survey of 1,002 adults Aug. 20-25.
