Motorists in Dubai are now paying for parking with a prepaid card developed for the city's transit system.
"We are seeing drivers using the Nol card to avoid looking for coins when parking their cars," said a spokesman for Dubai's Road and Transport Authority. The city has 3,000 parking meters that only accept the Nol cards.
The city introduced the contactless, closed-loop Nol cards in September. They are issued by the Dubai banking company Emirates NBD. Motorists used the Nol cards to pay for parking 170,000 times, and use is growing, the spokesman said.
