Providian Financial Corp. has announced plans to open an operations center in Louisville.
The facility would be Providian's fifth such expansion in 1999 and its second center in Kentucky. The card issuer has had a facility there since 1995 that employs 500.
The new 90,000-square-foot center, slated to open this fall, is expected to hold 1,000 employees hired over the next two years.
Providian will receive $20 million in tax credits from the state of Kentucky for opening the center there. Before its spinoff as an independent credit card company, Providian was part of an insurance company, since sold to Aegon of the Netherlands, that was based in Louisville.
