Roundup: BankAmerica Affiliate Gets Labor Dept. Award

SEATTLE - Seattle-First National Bank has received an Exemplary Voluntary Efforts Award from the U.S. Department of Labor for its efforts to improve job opportunities for minorities, women, and people with disabilities.

At a ceremony last week presided over by Secretary of Labor Robert Reich, the BankAmerica Corp. affiliate was cited for its Native American Pilot Program, which helps develop business, education, and employment opportunities in Washington State; and for the Seafirst Youth Job Program, a long-term commitment to education, employment, and mentoring of more than 140 at-risk youth in the state.

For the Native American Program, the bank on Sept. 12 was named "Corporate Advocate of the Year" at Northwest Business Opportunity Day by the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development, a nonprofit business consulting organization.

And the youth program got the bank a 1993 Job Training Partnership Act Outstanding Corporate Leader award, also from the Department of Labor.
