S. Carolina unit to take Wachovia name.

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Wachovia Corp. said its South Carolina National Bank will change its name officially to Wachovia Bank of South Carolina on Saturday.

Plans for the change were announced last October. WinstonSalem, N.C.-based Wachovia Corp. acquired South Carolina National Corp. in 1991.

Signs at the 150 South Carolina offices are to be changed over the Memorial Day weekend. Special events, including a jazz festival in Columbia, will also call attention to the name change, according to the bank's chief executive, Anthony L. Furr.
