Sales, Goodloe & Golden, Hinshaw & Culbertson enter co-counsel accord.

ATLANTA -- Sales, Goodloe & Golden, a minority-owned law firm in Atlanta, has entered into a co-counsel agreement with Hinshaw & Culhertson of Chicago.

The two from will initially focus on joint efforts in public finance, commercial lending, affordable housing finance, and litigation. As part of the

arrangement, the Sales Goodloe firm will open a Chicago office next week. "The relationship will enable Sales, Goodloe & Golden to broaden its practice base," said Raymond Sales, the firm's founder and managing partner. "With Hinshaw's strategic support, the firm will become a truly national firm." Sales' firm, which has 10 attorneys, specializes in public finance, corpo- rate finance, commercial lending, real estate, and local government law. Donald L. Mrozek, Hinshaw' s chair- man, said the arrangement with Sales Goodloe will help the firm represent a more diverse clientele.

"This endeavor reinforces Hinshaw & Culbertson's commitment to a di- versified workplace," Mrozek said. "We expect the relationship to be ex- tremely beneficial to both finns." Founded in 1934, the Hinshaw firm includes 300 attorneys at 17 offices in Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, and Florida. In addition to public finance, the firm specializes in insurance and tort litigation. It has also increased its corporate practice in recent years. Hinshaw & Culbertson has not served as bond counsel on any transactions in the first nine months of 1994, according to Securities Data Co.

In 1993, the firm ranked 518th nationally, with four deals totaling $15.4 million. It has not worked as bond counsel on any Georgia issues in the past two years.

So far this year, Sales Goodloe ranks 91st nationally as bond counsel on five financings totaling $374.3 million, according to Securities Data. All of the firm's deals were in Georgia, where it ranked fourth as bond counsel. It did not serve as bond counsel on any offerings last year, according to Securities Data.

Most recently, Sales Goodloe was co-bond counsel with Atlanta-based Kilpatrick & Cody on Atlanta's $80.1 million general obligation bond issue sold in late August.
