SEC names Becker as oversight chief.

WASHINGTON -- The Securities and Exchange Commission yesterday said that Brandon Becker, a 12-year veteran of the agency, has been named director of the SEC's market regulation division.

The division oversees the activities of broker-dealers and reviews regulatory proposals of the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board.

Since joining the SEC in 1978, Becker, 39, has played a key role in implementing the agency's rules requiring improved disclosure by municipal securities dealers.

Becker has law degrees from the University of San Diego and Columbia Law School.
