Securities Trade Group Appoints 7 to Board

The Bank Securities Association has named seven new board members.

The appointments, which were approved by the board last month and announced Friday, are part of a plan by the association to bulk up its membership, which has been flat in recent years.

"The current officers wanted to aggressively reach out to a larger constituency of the industry and expand it past just the largest institutions," said J. Heywood E. Sloane, administrative director of the Wayne, Pa.-based organization.

In addition, the group wants to reach out more to companies that are relatively new to investment product sales.

The new board members are:

Deborah Bernot, the president of Cal Fed Investments.

Scott Bresky, the president of Chase Investment Services Corp.

Mark Dillon, senior managing director of Banc One Securities Corp.

Robert H. Gordon, the president and director of NationsBanc Advisors Inc.

Alan Leach, the president of BancorpSouth Investment Services Inc.

Rick McCann, vice president of First Interstate Bank.

John Porter, the president and chief executive officer of SouthTrust Securities Inc.

The appointments, for two-year terms, bring the number of directors to 15, the maximum under its charter.

About 175 banks, brokerages, and mutual fund companies belong to the association.
