Cubic Corp. said its automated fare collection system, installed on Shanghai's metro service about three months ago, has generated sales of 100,000 contactless smart cards and more than one million magnetic tickets.

Transit officials said they expect the number of users to double within one year.

The fare collection system was designed to serve occasional travelers with magnetic tickets and daily commuters with contactless cards. In the future the system will link different modes of transportation, such as buses and commuter trains.
