Short Takes: Harris Investment Unit Hires Former BT Exec

The investment management arm of Harris Bankcorp has hired a senior portfolio manager from the former Bankers Trust Corp. to oversee high-yield bond offerings.

Gregory Hopper, 42, joined Harris Investment Management in early July, and the unit began offering its first comingled junk bond trust fund to institutional clients about a week later.

Mr. Hopper said high-yield bonds may be offered to retail investors at some point, though he did not have a time frame.

Harris Investment Management has about $15 billion of assets under management. Its Chicago-based parent is wholly owned by Bank of Montreal.
