Short Takes: N.Y. Marketer Names Exec Operations Chief

Independent Financial Marketing Group Inc., a third-party marketing firm, has named James J. Polhemus chief operating officer.

Mr. Polhemus, 43, had been president of Independent's insurance company subsidiary, IFS Agencies Inc., since 1996. He joined the company in 1993, as the insurance agency's director. Before that, he was operations manager for GNA Corp.'s alternative investment program at Chase Manhattan Bank.

The promotion, effective July 15, filled a post that had been vacant since Dennis Rushovich left the company this year.

Independent's chief executive, Denis Kaplan, said through a spokeswoman that Mr. Polhemus has a "unique understanding" of the business, particularly operations. "His skill in understanding client needs and fulfilling them has contributed heavily to the success of Independent Financial."

The Purchase, N.Y., parent company, which has 100 bank clients, is a subsidiary of Liberty Financial Cos., Boston. Liberty has more than $54 billion of assets under management.
