Short Takes: Putnam Fills New Job With Swiss Bank Exec

Putnam Investments named Stephen Oristaglio deputy head of investments, a new position, last week.

Mr. Oristaglio, 43, of Swiss Bank Corp. will start at the Boston-based mutual fund company in July. He will report to Tim Ferguson, senior managing director and head of investments.

In addition to overseeing trading, risk management, and derivatives, Mr. Oristaglio will head Putnam's fixed-income business. William J. Curtin, chief investment officer of fixed-income, and Brett Browchuk, head of trading, will report to him.

Mr. Oristaglio spent 10 years at Swiss Bank and was recently tapped to co-head global fixed investments after its merger with Union Bank of Switzerland is complete.

At Putnam, Mr. Ferguson was promoted in January to oversee all investments when Gary Coburn moved to a senior advisory role, according to a spokesman.

Mr. Ferguson joined Putnam two years ago from HSBC Holdings to run international funds. He took over Putnam's domestic equity business a year ago when Peter Carman left to run Citibank Asset Management.
