Short Takes: SEC Appoints Associate Director for N.E.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has named an associate director for the enforcement unit of its Northeast regional office.

Wayne M. Carlin, 40, who starts in September, is returning to the SEC from Lazard Freres & Co., where he has been vice president and head of regulatory affairs since May 1997.

Before joining Lazard Freres, Mr. Carlin was an assistant regional director in the SEC's Northeast regional office for about four years. He fills a slot left by Henry Klehm 3d, who was senior associate regional director. Mr. Klehm joined Prudential Insurance Company of America in June.

The Northeast regional office covers Washington and 12 states including New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Virginia.
