Short Takes: State St. Signs Up a Connecticut Trust Banker

State Street Corp., Boston, is beefing up the business development staff at its Connecticut bank subsidiary.

Peter F. Culver joined State Street Connecticut, Hartford, as a vice president in its trust and investment management division. Most recently, he was president of Sachem Trust in Guilford, Conn., which was acquired this year by Webster Financial Corp., Waterbury.

Earlier, Mr. Culver was a law partner at Sorokin, Sorokin, Gross, Hyde & Williams in Hartford and Gallant, Gallant & Culver in New Haven. He earned a bachelor's degree at Yale University and a law degree at the University of Connecticut.

"He has a strong identification with the legal community and with local institutions," said Dirk R. Dreux 4th, president of State Street Connecticut. "He lends a lot to our presence in this state, and not just in Hartford."

Mr. Culver is expected to bring in more clients for State Street Global Advisors, which manages more than $8 billion of assets for wealthy individuals. The bank's 205-year-old trust and investment division has offices in Hartford, Boston, Greenwich, Conn., Osterville, Mass., Manchester, N.H., and San Francisco. Another office will open in Naples, Fla., this fall.
