Short Takes: Training for Bank Staff From Michigan Insurer

Jackson National Life of Lansing, Mich., has created a program to serve licensed branch employees who sell insurance.

Jackson National's Platform Support Partnership will offer training and dedicated support to branch employees, who outnumber dedicated insurance representatives, the company said.

Unlike similar programs that focus on branch employees, Jackson National's trains them to sell a wider range of products, from fixed and variable annuities to equity-indexed products, said Brad Powell, president of the institutional marketing group, the Jackson National unit that oversees sales through banks.

One consultant, Valerie Jordan, principal of Jordan & Jordan Associates, Belchertown, Mass., said the program goes beyond dial-up support lines and helps bank platform workers understand these products generally.
