Smart Bits: Bank of Nova Scotia Launches Visa Cash Pilot

Bank of Nova Scotia and Visa Canada have begun a test of reloadable Visa Cash cards in Barrie, Ontario.

Scotiabank expects to issue chip cards to 5,000 consumers for use at 500 merchant locations, including hair salons, doughnut shops, and restaurants.

Customers can load up to $500 on their cards at automated teller machines. The program is similar to that of competitor Mondex in Guelph, Ontario. Scotiabank is also a member of the Mondex Canada consortium.
