Smart Bits: Customers in Holland For Denver's Racom

Racom Systems Inc. said it has been awarded a series of contracts to supply its contactless smart card technology in the Netherlands.

Racom initially will supply Login NV of Enschede, Holland, with 5,000 cards, along with terminals and communications software, for municipal recreation facilities in two cities and a community waste management system operated by three others.

Contactless systems, which do not require cards to be inserted into terminals, "provide the superior speed and endurance required for the necessary flexibility, performance, and security in our applications," said Login president Johan Kulper.

The smart cards are replacing cash, tokens, and keys for identification, facilities management, and payment purposes in the recreation centers in Schagen and Vlaardingen.

For the waste management program in Deurne, Kampen, and Zwolle, the cards will open battery-powered locks and prevent illegal dumping.
