Drexler Technology Corp., which manufactures optical memory cards, said an agency of the Philippines government has ordered 50,000 of its optically encoded LaserCards.

Filipino citizens will use the cards for duty-free shopping, Drexler said.

For the last nine months, some 130,000 Filipinos have used LaserCards in the Clark Special Economic Zone, a former U.S. Air Force base. The cards replace paper records for admission and for tracking purchase limits.
