Smart Bits: Visa Cash Used 2,500 Times a Day in Hong Kong

Visa International said its Visa Cash program in Hong Kong has surpassed 350,000 transactions since its launching last August by the Bank of China Group and Standard Chartered Bank.

The transactions have totaled $1.3 million. The averages have been 2,500 a day and $3.87 per transaction.

To increase momentum and volume, the sponsors issued discount coupons for use at selected retailers by consumers buying Prime Visa Cash cards during Chinese New Year celebrations.

The cards are disposable after their value expires, but issuers expect to offer a reloadable version this year.
