Gemplus Americas said it was chosen to supply smart cards to the largest loyalty program in Brazil.
The affiliate of the French card maker said it is providing two million cards for the Smart Club do Brasil program that will be rolled out in August in Rio de Janeiro.
It is expected to be expanded to other cities in the third quarter, and Gemplus said it would deliver five million cards this year.
Participants include Banco Bradesco, Shell Brasil, the airline TAM, the media company Rede Globo, and the retailer Lojas Americanas. Consumers will earn points redeemable for gifts, discounts, and other benefits.
