Sovereign Hires Key Philadelphia-Region Officials

Sovereign Bancorp, Wyomissing, Pa., hired six key executives for its regional headquarters in Philadelphia. Three are in commercial banking-two who jumped from First Union and one from CoreStates.

First Union's Matthew Wright will be a senior vice president of the Philadelphia commercial lending unit, working with small and medium-size businesses in a five-county market.

Randy Siegle will be in charge of the structured finance and asset- based-lending team in Philadelphia. He was a structured finance lender at First Union, Sovereign said.

Ted McDowell will lead commercial banking initiatives in central and northern Pennsylvania. He held a similar job at CoreStates Bank.

Retail banking jobs went to PNC, CoreStates, and First Fidelity officials.

Bruce Iacobucci was hired as president of Sovereign's eastern Pennsylvania retail banking division. He had been head of the business banking group at PNC Bank's eastern division.

Barry Stiger will be president of the central and northern Pennsylvania retail division. Mr. Stiger had been the CoreStates Bank executive for the region.

And Patrick Canfield was hired as senior vice president and regional manager for the Philadelphia County market area. Mr. Canfield was the Philadelphia senior vice president of First Fidelity Bank's retail banking group.
