State Groups Ask for Relief on Respa Suits

State mortgage banking associations are entering the fight against Respa-related class actions that target payment of broker fees.

The Mortgage Bankers Associations of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, along with the Mortgage Council of New Jersey last week filed a petition with the Department of Housing and Urban Development on the issue. The three associations asked that HUD issue a rule exempting the payment of yield- spread premiums from the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, or Respa.
