CINCINNATI -- Suburban Bancorp, the holding company Suburban Federal Savings Bank, earned $2.7 million -- or $1.80 per share -- for the fiscal year ended June 30, an increase of 19.6% from the prior year. Net earnings for the quarter ended June 30 with $456,000, or 31 cents a share, compared with $455,000 a year earlier.
The Cleveland-based bank is projecting steady growth in net interest income even as credit losses remain manageable. But Chairman and CEO Chris Gorman also said that he thinks a recession is likely.
The first-quarter increase involved commercial real estate loans, including some problematic multifamily loans and an office credit, but none of the criticized loans were to consumers, officials at the Dallas company say. Further CRE deterioration is anticipated.
