Tech Briefs: Synovus Creates Site On World Wide Web

Synovus Financial Corp., the $8 billion financial services company composed of 34 banks in the Southeast, has put up its first site on the Internet's World Wide Web.

The April 25 move is meant to "provide information to current shareholders, or possible shareholders, or anyone who's doing research on the financial industry," said Karen Reeder, a Synovus spokeswoman.

The Synovus Web site - whose complex graphics make it somewhat time- consuming to download - includes a corporate profile, financial results, stock quotes, and news releases.

To promote the Web site, Synovus's president and chief executive, James H. Blanchard, will host a live, on-line question and answer session on May 7.

Participants who sign on to the company's site at 10 a.m. Eastern time will be able to ask Mr. Blanchard "anything about Synovus, our strategy and history," Ms. Reeder said.
