Tech Bytes: Bank of Montreal Buys More Cash Dispensers

Bank of Montreal has signed a contract worth over $730,000 to purchase cash dispensing systems from Frisco Bay Industries Ltd. of Montreal.

The $109 billion-asset Toronto bank will install the systems, which work like automated teller machines, in 100 branches. The systems store cash and dispense it at the command of a teller, who keys in the dollar amount needed.

Barry Katsof, chairman and chief executive of Frisco Bay, said its system provides more security because cash is stored until requested by the teller, rather than sitting in a drawer.

In addition, the machines count more accurately than people, he said, and their built-in computers do end-of-day balance reporting automatically.

This is the second such contract for Frisco Bay. Bank of Montreal signed a similar agreement, worth $700,000, in May.
