Tech Bytes: Certification for EDS In Security Assessment

Electronic Data Systems Corp. said it has been awarded a high-level certification that bolsters its credentials for performing security assessments for public- and private-sector customers.

EDS' government industry group said it is one of only two organizations - Computer Sciences Corp. is the other - to be successfully rated against the federal government's Information Security Assessment Capability Maturity Model. The criteria are related to efforts to maintain security in what is known as critical information infrastructure.

"With the explosive growth of the World Wide Web, organizations around the world have become more and more aware of the importance of ensuring the security of their information technology," said Al Edmonds senior vice president and chief operating officer of the EDS government industry group. "This rating underscores the qualifications of EDS to help both government and commercial organizations evaluate their systems and the threats they face according to the demanding standards of the information security methodology."
