Tech bytes: Deluxe Data Sets Up Disaster Recovery Plan

MILWAUKEE - Shauna Baldwin Associates announced it has completed a 10-month disaster recovery project at Deluxe Data Systems.

Deluxe provides transaction processing services and software to financial institutions and electronic banking networks, such as California's Star System Inc.

About 160 Deluxe employees participated in the project. According to Shauna Baldwin, the disaster recovery plan will allow Deluxe to resurrect all of its computer operations, telecommunications links, and other critical functions within 72 hours of a service interruption related to a disaster.

Noncritical business functions can be brought back in 10 days.

The project - which prioritized Deluxe's functions, outlined the recovery plan, and trained employees - is designed to be updated as Deluxe adds new products and services.

Disaster recovery became a higher priority for transaction processors when an Electronic Data Systems Corp. computer facility in New Jersey was knocked out a commission by a snow storm several years ago.

Shauna Baldwin Associates has also managed a disaster recovery project at the Tyme electronic banking network in Wisconsin.
