Tech Bytes: FedEx Veteran to Join Citicorp's Inner Circle

Citicorp said Mary Alice Taylor will become executive vice president of operations in January, reporting to chairman John S. Reed.

Ms. Taylor has spent 16 years at Federal Express Corp. She will remain there as senior vice president in charge of North American ground operations through the Christmas season.

The appointment is the latest in a series Mr. Reed began last January, including the naming of former Philip Morris U.S.A. chairman William Campbell as retail banking chief. Ms. Taylor is the first to join the reconstituted inner circle with an operations title.

Mr. Reed issued a statement that indicated the desire for more central direction. "As markets have changed, we are globalizing our production platforms, upgrading quality, and improving our cost-competitiveness," the statement said. "This requires world-class talent."

Ms. Taylor said she has "mixed emotions" about leaving FedEx and views the Citi post as "an exciting challenge."
