Tech Bytes: Ga. Payment Processor Buys 2 Fla. Tech Firms

A provider of electronic commerce products and services for community banks, Intercept Group Inc., has made two check- related acquisitions in Florida.

It bought Item Processing of America, a processing center in the Miami- Fort Lauderdale area, and the assets of Premier Imaging, a check imaging facility in Jacksonville.

"These acquisitions are important because they cover a distinct geography and provide us with the opportunity to serve these growing markets with additional products and services," said John W. Collins, chairman and chief executive officer of Intercept Group.

Intercept provides a wide range of payment and processing services to financial institutions. In 1997 it created Intercept Switch, a no-surcharge automated teller machine network.
