Vignette Corp., a personalization software firm whose products are used on the Internet, said it would buy Diffusion Inc., a company whose software delivers information through various channels.
In exchange for about 400,000 shares of stock, Vignette is to acquire 100% of Diffusion.
With the acquisition of the Mountain View, Calif.-based firm, companies using Vignette's StoryServer software will be able to exchange consistent information with customers via the Internet, phones, faxes, e-mail, and pagers.
Greg Peters, chief executive officer and president of Vignette, said the acquisition will enhance the ability of institutions "to interact in real- time with their on-line customers."
Vignette's clients include First Union Corp., Bank One Corp., and PNC Bank of Tennessee.
