Tech Bytes: Kasten, Spyrus Link Up In Security Partnership

Kasten Chase Applied Research Ltd. said it has entered into an alliance with the U.S. cryptographic security company Spyrus to offer privacy and security assurance on electronic transactions.

Kasten Chase said it will combine its data security systems with Spyrus hardware and software. It said the result will be the first remote access version of Fortezza, a computer-card-based security hardware product widely used by government agencies.

"Our partnership with Spyrus is an example of our focus on providing a total secure access solution for the government and financial markets," said Steve Ducat, vice president of sales, Kasten Chase. The joint offering, he said, could become "the de facto standard for secure remote access."

Remote-access security is increasingly critical "with over 14 million people working from home or remote locations in the United States alone," said Charlie Scruggs, director of sales for Spyrus, based in San Jose, Calif. "The traveling road warrior will no longer need to be concerned about the loss of a laptop computer and the potential damage resulting from misuse of critical corporate information."
