Tech Bytes: Philly Bank Activates M&I Data Processing

has gone live at Philadelphia-based Asian Bank.

The newly chartered bank uses Eastpoint software for customer information management and cross-selling. Its main business is to promote business development in Philadelphia's Chinatown district.

The sale to Asian Bank underscores M&I Eastpoint's strategy for targeting start-up banks, an M&I spokesman said.

Julie S.H. Wong, president and chief executive officer of Asian Bank, said client/server systems -- as opposed to mainframes -- provide "better control over our data, including immediate access to customer information and the ability to create new products in a few hours, as opposed to days or weeks."

M&I Eastpoint is a unit of M&I Data Services, which is owned by Milwaukee-based Marshall and Ilsley Corp. Its system has a "track record and backing by a $21 billion corporation," Ms. Wong said.
